Review of Queen’s - Accident & Emergency
8th May 2024

It was difficult to get attention from nursing staff, being left without pain relief for hours. Doctors were more attentive but seemed to have differing opinions of my condition and treatment until I was moved to majors when, after some hours I was seen by doctors who came up with a plan.

Suggested improvements
Medical staff need to communicate with each other better in order to give patients more confidence in their ability to treat them effectively. Use triage to decide which patients can tolerate being left in the corridor, those with severely compromised immunity should be kept as isolated as possible.

Review of Same Day Emergency Care - Queens
8th May 2024

Waited 28 hrs to finally see a Eurology Dr after being contacted by Oncolgy to go to A&E asap due to issues with latest Scans and blood test during Cancer Treatment .

Suggested improvements
Managed the Triage system better, only 2 Drs treating patients.Should have a seperate Clinic for Emergency Cancer care, sitting in rooms for 28hrs with 40/50 people is not good for both Infection and Mental health for Cancer patients.

I gave a poor as the waiting time was absolutely terrible having to wait to see a doctor for results

Suggested improvements
Have a quicker time on seeing the doctor I know things are hard but things could run better if more a+e doctors on, you get tests done then you have to wait a day to see a doctor

I was in A&E for a total of 25 hours, it took 20 hours for me to be seen by a doctor, I was left in a cold corridor for 16 of those 20 hours, on a rock hard metal chair before having to result to laying in the floor in pain. The nurses and doctors were trying their best and I don’t blame them at all but the system as a whole is awful, people were suffering and just left. It was horrible and I was exhausted and sore by the end of it all.

Suggested improvements
Comfortable seating would be a good start if the wait times are that long, better food options, going 25 hours with only a sandwich and some biscuits is not easy, ideally more staff but that’s easier said the done given the way things are at the moment. Just make it more comfortable for people especially when there are longer waits. If you know someone isn’t going to be seen for atleast 20 hours, maybe set up a service that we get sent home then get a call or text back when we are (for example) 5th in the queue to be seen by a doctor so we can come back then and that way we can wait in the comfort of our own home.

Absolutely awful my husband has dementia and he had a broken hip and left in corridor and no pain relief and because he couldn’t communicate with them to good he was left and he was in there for 27 hours before he went on a ward then there wasn’t any room in the ward so he was left in the middle of a ward, what is happening nowadays it’s totally a disgrace, not a very good experience at all.

Suggested improvements
Sort the system out big time absolutely disgraceful
